Franciscan Cancer Center

Active prevention and leading edge treatment

The Franciscan Cancer Center offers complete in- and outpatient oncology care, including chemotherapy and radiation therapy, using the latest in equipment and medicine. Our bone marrow transplant program is affiliated with the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle. We also stress cancer prevention, and regularly hold public educational forums and screenings.

The Franciscan Cancer Center, with services at St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma, St. Clare Hospital in Lakewood, St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way, and the Jane Thompson Russell Cancer Care Center in Gig Harbor, utilizes highly capable and caring staff and leading-edge treatments. Therapies range from bone marrow/stem cell transplantation and inpatient (currently hospitalized) and outpatient (nonhospitalized) care, including non-invasive gamma knife surgery, to complementary therapies, spiritual care and hospice.

American Cancer Society Cancer Resource Center at St. Joseph Medical Center

At the time of diagnosis, most cancer patients are overwhelmed and unsure of the services that are available to them or how to find information.  To help, we have partnered with the American Cancer Society to launch a comprehensive Cancer Resource Center where patients and their families can learn about support and treatment services that are available locally and across the nation. It is the first and only service of its kind in Pierce County.

The Cancer Resource Center is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. The main phone number is 253-426-4237.

Prevention, Outreach, and Research

We offer education at community forums on the connection between diet and cancer, with an emphasis on breast, colon, prostate, and lung cancers. We are involved in cancer prevention trials in conjunction with Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, and we participate in a committee review of non-dietary supplements including herbal therapies.
