St. Joseph Emergency Room Physician Receives Leadership Award
Nathan Schlicher, MD, who is the associate medical director for emergency services at St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma, is among those to receive a special leadership award honoring individuals under age 40 who are making significant contributions to their profession, community or business.
Dr. Schlicher and the other 40 Under Forty Award recipients were recognized during a nautical-themed celebration Aug. 1 at the Foss Waterway Seaport in Tacoma. About 360 people attended the ceremony. The annual leadership award is presented by the Pierce County Business Examiner.
At 33 years old, Dr. Schlicher is both an attorney and a medical doctor. In addition to his leadership role in the emergency department at St. Joseph Medical Center, he is associate director of patient safety for Team Health, a national medical services organization.
For the past several months, Dr. Schlicher has helped lead the Washington State Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians in challenging regulations that would restrict emergency room visits by individuals enrolled in Medicaid, the health insurance program for low-income residents of Washington State.
St. Joseph Medical Center is the largest of the five hospitals in the Franciscan Health System.
