St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way is one of the best hospitals in the Seattle-Tacoma market for 2011, according to a survey by the magazine U.S. News & World Report.
To be ranked within the metropolitan area, hospitals had to score in the top 25 percent among their peers in at least one of 16 medical specialties. St. Francis Hospital is recognized for excellence in gynecology.

"We are honored to be listed with the top hospitals in the Seattle-Tacoma market," said St. Francis Hospital President Tony McLean. "This recognition reflects the commitment to excellence that is the standard every day for members of our medical staff, our nurses, and other caregivers."
St. Francis Hospital is one of the busiest hospitals of its size in Washington. From July 2009 through June 2010, for example, the staff responded to 49,768 patient visits in the emergency department; treated 10,597 patients who were hospitalized overnight or longer; responded to 51,563 outpatient visits; and delivered 1,215 babies.
The hospital is also participating in an initiative that encourages nurses and other frontline caregivers to develop and put into place ideas that can further improve care in medical and surgical units in hospitals across the United States. Called Transforming Care at the Bedside, the initiative is sponsored by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, a philanthropy devoted solely to public health.
St. Francis Hospital, which opened in 1987 and has 128 beds, is the only hospital in Federal Way.
