St. Clare Hospital Begins $15.5 Million In Renovations, Additions
Franciscan Health System's St. Clare Hospital in Lakewood has begun a $15.5 million, two-year multi-phase renovation and addition project that will result in a more comfortable and tranquil main lobby, a patient registration area with increased privacy, an expanded outpatient laboratory, a new gift shop, a larger cafeteria, and critical upgrades to mechanical, electrical and life-safety systems.
Work in the lobby and public reception area began in July and will take about nine months to complete.
Design of a larger inpatient laboratory also began in July with construction expected to start in early 2012. An electronic donor wall will be added in that phase of the project.
The state-of-the-art upgrades will benefit staff and patients. The new patient registration area will decrease patient wait times, increase privacy and support the healing environment. This department will be named for beloved, longtime St. Clare Hospital volunteers, Agnus and Richard Cambridge, in recognition of their generous donation supporting the renovation.
"All the work that is underway, and the work that is planned, will enhance the atmosphere of healing and peace for our staff, our patients and their loved ones," said hospital President Kathy Bressler. "The renovations and additions also reflect our commitment to patient-centered care and ensuring an optimal experience for those we serve."
Dining room and kitchen renovations will begin in the summer of 2012. The café will remain open to employees and visitors during the renovation.
Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI), the national non-profit organization with which Franciscan is affiliated, is providing funding.
Naming opportunities remain for various aspects of the St. Clare Hospital project. Contact the Franciscan Foundation at 253-428-8489 for more information.
