Nurse of the Year Awards
Congratulations to Debbie Raniero, RN, system director of Franciscan Family Birth Center and Marisa Gillaspie, RN, clinical nurse specialist at St. Francis Hospital who were honored at the 11th Annual March of Dimes Nurse of the Year Awards.
Debbie was the winner of the leadership category for her many years of clinical nursing, management and leadership to the Franciscan Health system peri-natal community.
“Debbie is one of the most fearless, creative, and ‘out-of-the-box’ thinkers. She is the one who always comes up with an idea whether the discussion is about cost reduction, patient experience or opportunities to generate revenue. Debbie was key to developing the OB Hospitalist Service at St. Joseph. She is continually searching out ‘best practices’ and the latest trends in OB services,” said Syd Bersante, St. Joseph Medical Center President.
Marisa was the winner in the innovation/creativity category. She is the first clinical nurse specialist employed by Franciscan in Acute Care Services and works at St. Francis Hospital. Marisa supports the medical/surgical services and is a resource for critical care, emergency services, diagnostic imaging and laboratory services.
She led a team of staff and physicians to launch Project BOOST (Better Outcomes for Older adults through Safe Transitions) with positive effects on core measures and patient satisfaction. Marisa co-authored an article that was published in Patient Safety and Quality Healthcare magazine.
