Appointment of Frank Senecal, MD, as Medical Director, Oncology Service Line
It is with great pleasure that we announce the appointment of Frank Senecal, MD, FACP, MBA, as medical director for Franciscan’s Oncology Service Line, effective January 1, 2014.
Dr. Senecal joined the Franciscan medical staff in 1985 and has served as the medical director for the Oncology service line at St. Francis and St. Joseph. Through Dr. Senecal’s oversight, Franciscan’s Oncology program has accomplished several significant milestones under his guidance, including:
- Accreditation by the American College of Surgeon Commission on Cancer. (Only 25 percent of cancer programs in the U.S. have earned this designation.)
- 2. Introduction of a bone marrow/stem cell transplantation program at St. Joseph Medical Center.
Dr. Senecal, an oncologist with a clinical focus on breast cancer, is board certified in internal medicine, hematology and medical oncology. He has been practicing oncology in Tacoma for more than 25 years and is presently a practicing partner with Northwest Medical Specialties Hematology-Oncology.
Dr. Senecal has won various Patients’ Choice awards in past years; he is very well known for his compassionate nature and vision to expand clinical trials.
Dr. Senecal’s former appointments include chief of staff at St. Joseph and St. Francis, chairman of the Department of Medicine at St. Francis, and medical director of Hospice of Tacoma. He is chairman of the board for South Sound CARE Foundation, a regional organization that helps support underfunded cancer research. Dr. Senecal is active in cancer treatment research and has published several scientific articles in that field.
In his position, Dr. Senecal will work closely with Joy Martin, the Oncology Leadership Council and multidisciplinary oncology providers to continue growing the strategically critical network of services and bring exceptional and compassionate patient care across the continuum.
