Franciscan Health System instructors and preceptors will provide you with the training needed to become experts in specialized care. Build your future with us! All residencies include structured didactic and clinical preceptor programs.

Peri-Anesthesia: Every March and September
A full-time 12 week course offered semiannually. This course prepares the Registered Nurse for entry into the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) as a member of the perioperative team. Classes include theory, skill labs, and clinical practice with exposure to the pre and post operative nurse roles.

Renal Dialysis: Every June, September and January (dates may be subject to change)
3 month program. Core competencies include:

  • Types of renal dialysis treatment
  • Kidney failure and multiple system issues
  • Fluid and electrolyte issues
  • Emergencies in kidney failure
  • Legal, ethical, and psych-social issues

Critical Care: Every February and August
3 month program. 3 tiered program: Tier I. Telemetry Tier II. Pulmonary Care and Tier III. Intensive Care. Core competencies include:

  • Trauma, ACLS, and critical health issues
  • Legal and ethical issues in Critical Care

Emergency Dept: Every February and August
3 month program. Core competencies include:

  • Selected emergencies and treatment modalities
  • Emergencies involving multiple trauma, cardiovascular, GI, renal and neurological issues
  • Situational and practical application with special populations
  • Legal issues in emergency nursing
  • A paramedic ride-along

Oncology: Every February and August
6 month program. Begins with Med / Surg residency and continues with Oncology. Core competencies include:

  • The nature and treatment of Oncological diseases
  • Psych-Social issues

Rehabilitation: Every February and August
6 month program. Begins with Med / Surg residency and continues with Rehab. Core competencies include:

  • Complex multiple system issues
  • Neurological and orthopedic problems
  • Interdisciplinary approaches to rehab services
  • General trauma and critical health issues

Medical / Surgical: Every March and August
3 month program. Core competencies include:

  • Medical / Surgical patients
  • Patient education
  • Ethical and legal issues

Operating Room: Every March and September
6 month program. Core competencies include:

  • Surgical instrumentation
  • Sterilization and infection control
  • Sterile draping and sutures
  • Principles in Electrosurgery
  • Emergencies in the OR
  • OR scrub-ins and specialty surgeries
