In 1891 The Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia founded St. Joseph Hospital (now St. Joseph Medical Center), Tacoma's first Catholic hospital. In 1974 the new St. Joseph Medical Center opened, and has seen an increase in patients every year since, many of whom require a high level of care.

St Joseph Medical Center operates a Level II Trauma Service to provide care for patients who have been critically injured or wounded, and is one of the busiest emergency-care providers in Washington.

The Heart and Vascular Center the center has been the site of a major renovation with the addition of state-of-the-art surgery suites and heart catheterization labs.

The Mental Health unit offers the only voluntary, inpatient psychiatric care available in Pierce and South King counties, providing critical stabilization and support when persons with mental illness are in crisis.

Franciscan Health System has grown with the enduring goal of fulfilling the spiritual, emotional and physical needs of those we serve. Through your generous gift, we will be able to continue to provide excellent medical services to our community.

Help extend our mission to deliver compassionate, healing health care with the latest advancements in medical equipment and technology. Gifts and grants to St. Joseph Medical Center from private donors come in a myriad of ways.
