Effective May 17, 2012 until further notice: To protect the health of babies during the current statewide epidemic of pertussis (whooping cough), children under 18 years old may not enter the Family Birth Center unless they are the brother or sister of the baby. Thank you for your cooperation.

SJMC FBC Franciscan Family Birth Center at St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington offers expectant families personal attention and exceptional medical care, backed by the extensive resources of one of the largest health systems in the region. St. Joseph, the busiest birthing center in the South Sound region, now offers the most expansive prenatal, obstetrical, delivery and post-partum care in the area – including a Level III neonatal intensive care (NICU) for fragile newborns, providing care for infants as young as 28 weeks gestation or weighing as little as 1000 grams (or just over 2 pounds).
