Gig Harbor hospital treats more than 1,000 patients during its first month

St. Anthony Hospital will open additional beds in May

Since opening in March, St. Anthony Hospital in Gig Harbor has provided care to more than 1,000 people. During its first 30 days of service (March 17-April 16), the new hospital:

  • Treated 1,068 patients in the emergency department (about 36 patients per day on average)
  • Admitted 306 patients for care that lasted overnight or longer
  • Provided 131 surgeries

St. Anthony, the newest hospital in Washington State, provides a comprehensive array of inpatient and outpatient medical services; inpatient and outpatient surgeries; heart catheterization and vascular services; diagnostic imaging services; and outpatient cancer therapies.

St. Anthony is the first and only full-service hospital on the Peninsula. It employs approximately 500 physicians, nurses, surgical techs, diagnostic imaging technologists and other health care professionals.

St. Anthony opened with 48 patient beds. In order to meet current and expected patient-care needs, 16 additional patient beds will be activated by May 26 or sooner. All its 80 licensed beds will be available for patient care by July.

“While patient volumes have exceeded our expectations, our staff has risen to the occasion to make the individual patient experience not just satisfactory, but superb,” said Carole Peet, chief operating officer at St. Anthony.

St. Anthony is part of the Franciscan Health System, which is ranked among the top health systems in the nation by SDI, a leading health care information and research organization.
