Thank you for visiting us. Hospice volunteering offers you a unique opportunity to join hospice patients on a journey that celebrates their lives, and embraces the reality of death. As an essential part of the team, hospice volunteers creatively connect with patients and their families to help celebrate themselves and their lives.

Why should I volunteer?

  • You make a difference for others and yourself
  • We need your experience and compassion to enhance the excellent care provided by our hospice and palliative care team
  • You are well supported and trained in your volunteer role

What are ways that I can help?

  • Take time to listen to someone’s stories and memories
  • Relieve a caregiver for a few hours
  • Call someone who is lonely and isolated
  • Play cards
  • Do someone’s dishes
  • Visit someone in a nursing home
  • Deliver flowers and make someone’s day

What qualifications do I need to volunteer?

  • Be at least 16 years old
  • Be available 1-4 hours a week
  • Give a 1-year commitment to volunteering
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Maintain an open non-judgmental attitude towards patients and their families

How do I Get Started?

  • Complete the “Become a Volunteer” form and email or mail it to us at: Volunteer Services, Franciscan Hospice House, 2901 Bridgeport Way, University Place, WA 98466-4631.
  • Receive a introductory call from a Volunteer Coordinator
  • Complete an interview
  • Attend an upcoming training
