Admissions/Registration
Phone: (360) 802-3219
Whether you're coming in for an X-Ray, treadmill or daily injection, you will need to check in at the Admitting/Registration Desk. We need to know you're here, and if applicable, update your patient information to keep it current.
The admissions/registration process is the first part of your hospital visit, and an important step in ensuring a pleasant stay. We are located through the set of double doors next to the emergency room entrance on Battersby Avenue.
Between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m., you may enter the hospital via the sliding glass doors at the Emergency Department or Registration entrance. Please ring the bell if the door is locked. You may use the ambulance ramp to drop someone off, but please don’t park there.
Each patient should bring his/her insurance card and a photo ID (i.e., driver’s license) for photocopying, emergency contact information, and your current employer's address and phone number. If your regular physician is located out of the area, then bring his/her contact information as well. In addition, you may be asked by the department to which you're being admitted to bring in X-ray films or other medical records. If you have a Living Will or Advance Directive, bring a copy so that it is made part of your medical record.
If you have an appointed time for a test or procedure, please arrive 15 minutes early or as instructed by the Scheduling staff in order to avoid delays.
If staying overnight, please leave valuable items (jewelry, cash, credit cards, etc.) at home.
If you have been sent to the hospital from your physician's office, you must register before being seen in the Emergency Department. If your physician has sent you to the hospital to be admitted to any other department, keep in mind that we need orders from him or her before that admission can be completed. If you or a loved one is arriving by ambulance, your admission can be handled by the clerk, or a family member can provide us with the information we need.
Be Prepared
Planning ahead for your hospital visit will make the experience as comfortable as possible.
The hospital needs to know your medical history. Bring a list of all medications and herbal supplements you take and also write down previous surgeries, resulting complications, problems related to an anesthesia, medications, or allergies.
If staying overnight, bring any personal items you might need. If you are going home following a procedure, you will need someone to drive you.
What to Expect
We welcome your questions and we want our patients to take an active role in their care.
Surgery patients are called prior to going to the hospital to obtain their medical history. Otherwise you will be asked for your medical history when you arrive.
You will go to Registration where you will sign a form giving your consent for treatment. You then will be escorted to the appropriate department. An IV may be started when you reach the department.
Having Surgery
Surgeries are arranged by your physician and their staff. Usually insurance authorization is obtained at this time as well. You will either have to come to the hospital before your procedure to get an EKG, chest X-ray and lab test, or you may have them done at your doctor's office. You may have to bring these with you when you check in for your surgery, or they may be sent over from the doctor's office.
You should receive a call before your surgery. A nurse will have some questions for you, and you may also ask any questions you have at this time.
If you are having a knee replacement, a physical therapist will want to see you prior to admission to discuss rehabilitation equipment used after surgery.
Before surgery, do not eat or drink anything (even water) for the time specified by your surgeon or pre-op nurse. If you are concerned about skipping any medications, discuss this with your surgeon or pre-op nurse as well. If you have additional questions, call (360) 825-2505 and ask to talk with a surgical nurse or anesthetist.
When you come to the hospital for surgery, leave your valuables at home. During your surgery, family members can wait for you in the waiting room downstairs next to the surgery suite and the surgeon will talk with them afterwards.
Going Home
A Discharge Planning nurse works with patients and families to identify equipment needs and discharge options. The nurse can assist you in obtaining any medical equipment you might need and can facilitate placement in a skilled nursing, rehabilitation or transitional-care facility if you are unable to return to your home immediately after discharge.
Your discharge date and time depend on your doctor's written orders for discharge, or by your meeting certain physician-specified criteria. Inpatients are usually discharged from the hospital any time between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m., depending on the need for hospital services.
Medical Insurance
Many insurance companies require that you pre-certify for certain medical procedures. Check your policy or contact your insurance provider to ensure that physician and hospital services are properly authorized.
As stated in your contract with your insurance company, your co-pay and/or deductible is your responsibility and will be collected by Enumclaw Regional Hospital at the time of service. If you are unsure of your co-pay and/or deductible responsibility, contact your insurance provider at the (800) number provided on your insurance card.
Self-Pay Patient Discount
In order to ensure community-wide access to its services, Enumclaw Regional Hospital and the Franciscan Health System provide the same average price discount to self-pay patients as given to commercial insurance companies.
Currently, self-pay patients receive a 60 percent discount on bills for our hospital services. Payment or satisfactory arrangements must be made within 60 days. “Self-pay” refers to patients who have the ability to pay for hospital services but lack medical insurance and do not qualify for financial assistance.
The self-pay discount does not apply to established prices for self-pay services that are not covered by insurance. Also, this discount does not apply to co-pays or deductibles for patients with medical insurance.
For more information about our Self-Pay Patient Discount, please contact our Patient Accounts representative at (360) 802-3254 or 802-3271.
Uninsured/Underinsured Patient Discounts
Enumclaw Regional Hospital and the Franciscan Health System provide medical care for everyone who needs it, regardless of their ability to pay.
Our policy for Uninsured/Underinsured Patient Discounts (also called charity care or financial assistance) is based on the individual’s financial ability, or inability, to pay the balance of his/her hospital bill.
We use the U.S. Housing and Urban Development’s “Geographic Very Low Income Guidelines” to determine a patient’s eligibility for charity care. Patients can qualify to have up to 100 percent of his or her hospital bill forgiven.
Patients with some health insurance may still qualify for charity care because of their limited annual income. These individuals are often described as “underinsured.”
Patients who qualify for charity care or financial assistance typically have no income or only a very limited income, no medical insurance or only inadequate medical insurance, and no ability to pay for the hospital services they need.
For more information about our Uninsured/Underinsured Patient Discount, please call (360) 802-3254 or 802-3271. All inquiries are considered private and confidential.
Bills for Medical Services
Typically, if you have medical insurance or Medicare, you will receive a bill from the hospital within 45 to 60 days of your visit. Your hospital bill will reflect whatever your insurance does not pay. If you have no insurance, you can expect to receive a bill about 15 days after your visit.
After your insurance company has reviewed your bill and paid for, or denied, its portion, we will bill you for your part of the bill. Most insurance companies require patients to pay part of their hospital bills View your bill online.
Questions about your health insurance:
Please contact your insurance company with questions about your insurance.
Questions about your hospital bill:
Call (360) 802-3254 or 802-3271.
If you cannot afford to pay your hospital bill, please ask for information about financial assistance.
Questions about bills from other providers:
You may receive separate bills from each physician involved in your care, including your regular doctor, your surgeon, assistant surgeon, anesthetist or anesthesiologist (if you have surgery), and other specialists. Your hospital bill does not include these charges nor does the hospital submit the insurance claims for their payment. Please contact the physician’s or specialist’s office directly with any questions you have about physician charges.
Medical Records
Medical Records are maintained for all individuals seen in the hospital as inpatients, outpatients and emergency room patients. For adults, records are maintained for 10 years beyond the last contact with the hospital. In the case of minors, records are maintained three years.
Visiting Hours
Regular visiting hours at Enumclaw Regional Hospital are from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. daily for all inpatient units. Exceptions to regular visiting hours are determined by the nursing staff based on the patient’s needs and condition.
Due to space limitations, we request that there be no more than two visitors in the patient’s room at the same time.
All visitors must check in at the nurses’ station.
After regular visiting hours, visitors must enter through the Emergency Department.
Children under 12 years old must be accompanied by an adult when visiting the hospital.
Patient Privacy/Facility Directory
Enumclaw Regional Hospital protects the private health information of our patients. We follow federal privacy standards established by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996.
HIPAA, which is pronounced “Hip-pa”, is a term often used by physicians, nurses and other health care professionals.
For adult patients who are in the Facility or Hospital Directory, limited information about them is released only to individuals who ask for the patient by his/her first and last names. Limited information can include: Patient’s name; patient’s general location within the hospital; patient’s condition (satisfactory, serious, critical, etc.).
Adult patients have the right to “opt out” of the Facility Directory but cannot “pick and choose” who can be informed about their presence in the hospital. When callers or visitors ask about adult patients who’ve chosen not to be in the Facility Directory, we respond by saying: “We have no information available about a patient by that name.”
An adult patient may change his/her decision to be included in or excluded from the Facility Directory.
No information is released about patients under 18 years old without the written consent of a parent or guardian.

Fire Safety
When the fire alarm goes off inside the hospital, remain calm and stay where you are until given specific directions. Our staff will advise you about where to go if any action is needed. Cell Phones
Cellular phones may be used inside the hospital so long as their use does not disrupt patient care or the care environment.
Advance Healthcare Directive
An Advance Healthcare Directive is the plan you make for your future health care. It may include instructions about the choices you prefer for your care, or you may appoint another person or persons who would make your health care decisions if you become unable to make them yourself. It may be a formal, legal document or you may choose to communicate your choices more informally in a letter or by simply talking to friends and family members.
In Enumclaw, various members of the community have formed a task force to make Advanced Care Planning available through local health care facilities and churches in the area. This program, known as "Honor My Wishes," has developed a Healthcare Directive and Power of Attorney document that is both personal and legal, and expresses your wishes regarding medical care at the end stage of life.
What is a Healthcare Directive? This is a document which directs your physician when to stop life-sustaining medical treatment and allow you to die naturally. It is effective only if you are terminally ill and will die soon, and the result of medical procedures would only prolong the process of dying, or if you are in a permanent unconscious condition. There are many facilitators of the "Honor My Wishes" program available in the community who will help you customize this document to reflect your personal wishes. For more information, go online to HonorMyWishes.org.
Why should I have an Advance Directive? Advancements in medicine have enabled us to prolong life and protect ourselves from illness. It is entirely possible that your life may be extended beyond what you would consider "living" into a stage of just "existence." By default, medical facilities are dedicated to treating patients and keeping them alive. Without any knowledge as to your end of life preferences, medical care and costs continue, and your family suffers the unpleasant task of making decisions without knowing if they're doing the right thing.
Who decides what happens to me in a medical emergency? You do. As long as you are capable of making your own decisions, you remain in control of your medical care. Your decisions will always be the first ones sought in any medical situation. In the absence of your ability to make choices, unless a Healthcare Power of Attorney is present or an Advance Directive exists, medical personnel will assume that you want life-sustaining measures administered.
Is it enough to just have an Advance Directive? No, but you've taken an important step. It is also advised that you designate someone to make medical decisions on your behalf, such as a Power of Attorney for Healthcare. And you should discuss your end-of-life wishes with your friends, family, and your Power of Attorney for Healthcare. Help them understand what living and dying means to you. It is equally important to make sure that your doctor and local hospital have copies of this directive in your medical record.
Okay, I'd like to get one of these Advance Directives. What do I do? Thanks to the Advance Care Planning program here in Enumclaw, you may check out their website, for a list of facilitators in this area, or email them at honormywishes@hotmail.com. During your stay at Enumclaw Regional Hospital, you may communicate with your nurse or other care provider to get started on this process.
