Laurie Brown, RN, is named vice president, chief nursing officer for Franciscan Health System

 Laurie Brown, a longtime manager and director at the Franciscan Health System, has been promoted to vice president and chief nursing officer for the 6,300-employee organization.
“I am honored to have been chosen for this leadership position,” she said. “I look forward to the opportunities ahead for helping Franciscan achieve its strategic goals of being the best place to heal and the best place to work.”
The position of vice president and chief nursing officer is a new executive position that is dedicated to the advancement of nursing practice throughout the Franciscan Health System. The organization includes St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma, St. Clare Hospital in Lakewood, St Francis Hospital in Federal Way, Enumclaw Regional Hospital and St. Anthony Hospital in Gig Harbor (opens in early 2009).
Brown is a Northwest native who earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the Intercollegiate Center of Nursing at Washington State University and a Master’s degree in Nursing from the University of Washington-Tacoma.
She has had a distinguished career with Franciscan for the past 23 years. Since 1995 she served as system director for care management services, providing oversight to help optimize quality of care while containing costs. During this time, she created the regional care management service across Franciscan entities to support strategic and operational plans. She also provided leadership on several initiatives designed to improve access to and efficiency within the organization. In her new role with Franciscan, Brown is based at St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma.
