Franciscan Health System names Meta Dooley its senior vice president for strategic planning and business development
Meta Dooley is the new senior vice president for strategic planning and business development for Franciscan Health System, one of the largest private employers in the South Puget Sound region that includes St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma and hospitals in Federal Way, Lakewood, Enumclaw and Gig Harbor.

Her appointment was announced July 15 by Franciscan President and CEO Joe Wilczek.

She will direct system-wide strategic planning, business plan development for service lines and facilities, and advocacy for the 6,300-employee organization that is based in Tacoma and has hospitals, medical clinics and other care facilities in Pierce, King and Kitsap counties.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to join the Franciscan Health System and to play an integral role in this great organization and the communities it serves currently and in the future,” Dooley said. “Franciscan’s reputation for excellence has established it as one of the best places to work and to receive medical care in the region.”

Dooley has had a distinguished career, including 15 years with MultiCare Health System where she served in several key strategic roles, including vice president of strategy, business development and legislative affairs from 2000 to 2005. Prior to that, she was a consultant with a strategic planning and facilities consulting firm. Since 2005, she has provided strategic and facility development counsel to clients across the country as a consultant.

An Auburn resident, Dooley received a bachelor’s degree from Western State College and has completed graduate studies at the University of Denver and the Harvard University Executive Education Program. She succeeds Laure Nichols, who left the Franciscan Health System earlier this year.

In addition to St. Joseph Medical Center, the Franciscan organization includes St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way; St. Clare Hospital in Lakewood; Enumclaw Regional Hospital; St. Anthony Hospital in Gig Harbor (opening early 2009); an expanding network of primary-care and specialty-care clinics; and the only inpatient hospice facility in the South Sound.

Franciscan Health System is a recent recipient of the Washington State Quality Award for performance.
