Franciscan opens new urgent care clinic in Gig Harbor today

Visitors, patients receive a free digital thermometer while supply lasts

St. Anthony Prompt Care, a state-of-the-art urgent care clinic that provides timely treatment of minor injuries and illnesses every day of the week, opened today in Gig Harbor.

The new clinic, which is part of the Franciscan Medical Group, is conveniently located on the first floor of the St. Anthony Medical Building at 4700 Pt. Fosdick Drive (formerly called the 4700 Pt. Fosdick Building). The clinic is open from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. No appointment is necessary.

Visitors and patients receive free digital thermometers, as long as the supply lasts.

“While there’s never a right time to fall off a bike, cut a finger or run a fever, there is now a new choice for urgent care in Gig Harbor when people need to see a doctor without an appointment,” said Dean Field, MD, regional medical director of the Franciscan clinics in Gig Harbor and on the Peninsula.

“We use the newest equipment and most advanced medical procedures to ensure that our patients receive exceptional care whenever they need it – mornings, afternoons, evenings or weekends,” he added.

The staff at St. Anthony Prompt Care provides expert treatment for minor illnesses and injuries, such as bruises, bumps, colds, cuts, flu, migraines, rashes, simple fractures, sinus infections, sprains, stomach pains and strains. The clinic staff includes Kevin Tang, MD; Renee Lyon, ARNP; Meagan Manning, ARNP; and Kara Scanlan, ARNP. James Byrne, MD will join the clinic within several weeks.

In addition to a receiving high quality medical care, Prompt Care patients will feel welcomed by the new clinic’s healing environment that features a blown-glass aquarium, warm colors, flooring that suggests a Pacific Northwest beach or river bed, soft lighting and comfortable seating. There’s even covered outdoors seating in a park-like setting.

The opening of the much-needed urgent care clinic expands the Franciscan organization’s many programs and services in Gig Harbor, which include: Gig Harbor Medical Clinic; Gig Harbor Day Surgery; an outpatient kidney dialysis clinic; a sleep disorders treatment center; Harbor Orthopedic Clinic; ROAD Clinic, which specializes in treating rheumatoid arthritis and related conditions; Eye Care at Gig Harbor; and St. Anthony Specialty Care at Pt. Fosdick.

Also, the Franciscan Health System is preparing to begin construction of St. Anthony Hospital in Gig Harbor North next year. The 80-bed, acute-care hospital, which is planned to open in 2009, will be the only hospital in the growing Gig Harbor area.

“We are very pleased to expand our services in Gig Harbor and to provide an urgent care clinic to serve our rapidly growing community,” Field said.
