Franciscan Health System’s associate corporate responsibility officer selected to be an examiner for Baldrige Quality Award
|
Christine Dwight, associate corporate responsibility offier for the Franciscan Health System in Tacoma, has been appointed to the board of examiners for the 2008 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. The award, created by public law in 1987, is the highest level of national recognition for performance excellence that a U.S. organization can receive. As an examiner, Dwight is responsible for reviewing and evaluating applications submitted for the award.
The board of examiners is composed of approximately 500 leading experts selected from industry, professional and trade organizations, education and health care organizations, and government.
“I am very honored to have been chosen to serve on the board of examiners for this very competitive and prestigious award program,” Dwight said.
Those selected to be examiners meet the highest standards of qualification and peer recognition. All members of the board must also take part in a preparation course based on the Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence, and the scoring and evaluation processes for the award.
Baldrige awards may be given annually in each of six categories: manufacturing, service, small business, education, healthcare and non-profit. Awards have been presented to 74 organizations across the nation.
Dwight’s appointment to the board of examiners was announced on May 28 by Dr. James M. Turner, acting director of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
The Baldrige National Quality Program is managed by NIST, a division of the U.S. Commerce Department's Technology Administration, in close cooperation with the private sector. The American Society for Quality (ASQ) in Milwaukee, Wis. administers the program. More information about the Baldrige National Quality Program is online: http://www.baldrige.nist.gov.
In 2007, Franciscan Health System received the Washington State Quality Award for performance excellence from Gov. Christine Gregoire. The non-profit health system, one of only four organizations to receive the state’s quality award, employs nearly 6,300 people at its hospitals, clinics and other care facilities in Pierce, King and Kitsap counties.
