A 3-Star rating for Coronary Bypass Surgery at St. Joseph Medical Center
The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS), a national organization of cardiac and thoracic surgeons, has developed a comprehensive rating system for assessing the quality of cardiac surgery provided by hospitals throughout the United States. A "3-star" rating is the highest score possible. Only 12 to 15 percent of hospitals are awarded a “3-star” rating. St. Joseph Medical Center is among this select group. Evaluated by the STS for the period extending from January 1 through December 31, 2011, St. Joseph was given a perfect 3-star rating for coronary bypass surgery. This also reflects the overall excellence of the cardiovascular services offered at St. Joseph Medical Center, one of a few select hospitals to achieve an STS 3-Star rating.
