The Franciscan Experience

Deloye

“I enjoy being a nurse because it allows me to share the skills and knowledge that others have shared with me. In nursing there are great opportunities to make a difference by helping others. I enjoy the challenges each workday brings to me. To be in a caring and team working environment makes going to work worthwhile.”

Staff suggestions for workplace improvements are always encouraged

Franciscan Health System is committed to being the best place to work and to receive medical care. Its innovative Franciscan Experience program enables the organization to be an employer of choice, distinguished by a culture in which nurses and other staff are inspired to excel and who are rewarded for their successes.

All of our employees are encouraged to make suggestions that will enhance facilities, processes and programs in order to improve the workplace, strengthen relations between staff members, enrich the quality of patient care and raise staff satisfaction.

Within the past two years, Franciscan has spent approximately $1 million to implement employee suggestions submitted through the Franciscan Experience Idea Mill and Workplace Improvement Fund. A few examples include redecorating a nurses’ lounge; sponsoring staff celebrations after completing a JCAHO survey; and purchasing digital thermometers for patient rooms.

Franciscan champions employee recognition-and-award initiatives that applaud individuals who do good work. For example, Caught in the Act is one of our peer-to-peer recognition programs that empowers employees to acknowledge above-and-beyond performances by their co-workers.

Also, each department has a Kudos Kit toolbox filled with assorted candy bars, gift certificates and other rewards available for employees to distribute as tokens of appreciation when they recognize great performances by their peers.
