Our Mission Is Our Steadfast Beacon
Our organization has been essential to the quality of life in the South Puget Sound since 1891 when the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia established St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma. They saw a need in the community and responded in faith and with determination.
Their healing ministry resonates throughout all our hospitals, outpatient centers, medical clinics and other care facilities. So does their pioneering spirit.
Fundamental changes are occurring in health care, locally and nationally, that are redefining how, when, and where care is delivered. Providing high quality care has always been our top priority. As the federal Accountable Care Act is enacted, health systems like Franciscan are focusing more than ever on care that emphasizes quality, patient satisfaction and affordability.
Through this change, our compass remains our mission to create healthier communities. Change has been part of health care since the Sisters arrived in Tacoma to start a hospital. I am incredibly proud of the Franciscan Family's continuing extraordinary achievements. We are focused on providing advanced medicine and trusted care, now and in the future.
In this Report to the Community for fiscal year 2012 (July 2011-June 2012), you can see how our values, and the Sisters of St. Francis’ legacy of care and compassion, distinguish the Franciscan Health System to this day.
