At the heart of all we do as members of the Franciscan Family is a shared commitment to serving others in their unique times of need.
This dedication is evident in our inpatient and outpatient services, as well as our numerous Community Benefit programs. It can also be seen in simple acts of kindness, such as when a Franciscan employee or volunteer pauses to help an elderly man find his way in a busy hospital. Our work is of the heart and from the heart.
Community Benefit takes many forms. It includes educational programs and health talks, free and subsidized community health services, support of community-building events, cost of charity care, and many other services that help us fulfill the Franciscan mission to create healthier communities.
During fiscal year 2011 (July 2010-June 2011), our quantifiable Community Benefit (including the cost of charity care) totaled $75,265,835.
The cost of charity care (free and reduced-cost care for individuals who cannot afford to pay) was $26,060,321.
Our total Community Benefit exceeded our tax exemptions as a non-profit organization by $23,159,645. We are blessed with the ability to give more than we receive.
