Joe Wilczek has served as chief executive officer of the Franciscan Health System since January 1998. He is also senior vice president of divisional operations for Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI), with executive oversight for CHI hospitals in Pendleton, Ore. (St. Anthony Hospital) and Roseburg, Ore. (Mercy Medical Center).
Following service as an officer in the U.S. Army, he received a master’s degree in health care administration from George Washington University. Early in his career, he wrote national health care legislation as a special assistant in the Executive Office of the President under then-President Richard Nixon.
Wilczek has served on the Washington State Hospital Association Board of Directors, the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and the Regional Policy Board of the American Hospital Association.
He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
