Tony Haftel, MD, has served as vice president for quality and associate chief medical officer for the Franciscan Health System since 2001.
He joined the organization in 1989 and was medical director for emergency services at St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma for several years. Previously, he was director of emergency services at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles.
Dr. Haftel received a degree in medicine from the University of Pennsylvania and completed a junior surgical residency at the University of California-San Diego and an emergency medicine residency at the University of Chicago. He completed an additional year of pediatric emergencies at the University of Washington. He also earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Drexel University in Philadelphia.
He is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians.
Dr. Haftel is a member of the Robert Bree Collaborative, a position to which he was appointed by Washington Gov. Christine Gregoire in 2011. The collaborative is a consortium of public and private health care purchasers, health carriers and providers that is working to identify concerns with quality in health care and recommend evidence-based strategies for improvement.
